About William Hellams

William “Will” Hellams is the founder of Hellams Law, LLC, where he represents individuals charged with crimes, parents navigating family court, and people whose civil rights have been violated. His background in public safety, criminal defense, civil rights litigation, and insurance defense gives him a unique and strategic perspective that shapes every case he handles. Before founding Hellams Law, Will gained extensive trial experience as an Assistant Public Defender in South Carolina’s Thirteenth Circuit. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Perry H. Gravely, deepening his understanding of judicial decision-making and courtroom strategy. During law school, he was a Senator for the Student Bar Association, a student attorney in the MacArthur Justice Clinic, and co-founded Magnolia Defenders, a group supporting aspiring public defenders. Will also spent time as an insurance defense attorney representing transportation companies in serious accident litigation. This experience gave him firsthand insight into how insurance companies approach high-stakes cases—knowledge he now uses to advocate for clients facing complex legal battles, whether in family court or civil rights litigation. With nearly 20 years in public safety—including service as a decorated paramedic with six lifesaving awards—Will brings a calm, focused presence to high-pressure legal situations. His experience in crisis management allows him to guide clients through legal turmoil with clarity, confidence, and care. At Hellams Law, Will personally manages each case with integrity and precision, offering clients direct access, honest advice, and relentless advocacy. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing guitar, attending live music events, traveling, and fishing.
