He is listed in Best Lawyers in America, and his peers continually recognize him as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer. Tom was named the 2011 Milwaukee Workers' Compensation Lawyer of the Year in Best Lawyers. In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his service and advocacy from the Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG). Tom taught the worker's compensation course at Marquette University Law School, providing the instruction and training for many other lawyers. He lectures frequently around the state and nation (including the State Bar of Wisconsin, UW-Milwaukee, and the University of Wisconsin School for Worker's Compensation Institute). His national and international presentations on worker's compensation practice and ethics for lawyers and law students and long-term advocacy for injured workers earned him election as a Charter Member of the ABA's College of Worker's Compensation Lawyers. He also was elected a member of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI), a national organization of leading worker's compensation experts. He also is a prolific writer, editing the national magazine Workers' First Watch, co-authoring over two dozen texts (including West's treatise Wisconsin Workers' Compensation Law), and is regularly quoted in the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel. He belongs to numerous professional organizations: Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group-WILG (Board of Directors and Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient); Wisconsin Association of Justice (Worker's Comp Cmte); American Association of Justice (Past Chair, Workers' Comp Section); Wisconsin Association of Worker's Compensation Attorneys; and the American, State and Milwaukee Bar associations.
