About Stephen Cromwell

Stephen Cromwell, a former attorney for the IRS, is a seasoned Attorney and Certified Public Accountant with over 20 years of experience advising individuals and businesses on tax planning and financial optimization. Stephen holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Maryland, an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland, and an advanced law degree (LL.M.) in Taxation from Washington University St. Louis. He is licensed to practice in Maryland and admitted to the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Stephen has earned the prestigious NTPI Tax Fellow and Certified Tax Resolution Specialist (CTRS) designations and is an active member of several professional organizations including the AICPA, the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS). He is also a Registered Investment Advisor. Before founding DMV Tax Resolution and becoming Managing Partner of Cromwell & Associates, LLC, Stephen held senior finance roles at high-tech firms across the Baltimore-Washington corridor. Notably, he served as Controller for NFR Security, where he played a key role in its acquisition by Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP) and supported the post-integration process. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior analyst in the treasury department of ICMA Retirement Corporation. Stephen specializes in tax planning and preparation, representing taxpayers before the IRS and state tax authorities in both civil and criminal matters, and, when strategies allow, helping clients file individual or business bankruptcies. He has also taught accounting courses at universities and community colleges across the DC Metro area. Originally from Baltimore, Stephen enjoys running to relax and relieve stress. On game days when time allows, Stephen enjoys cheering on the Ravens, Orioles, and Maryland Terrapins.
