About John III

John E. Nobles, III is a Carteret County native and criminal defense attorney dedicated to protecting the rights and futures of individuals facing criminal charges in Eastern North Carolina. His practice is focused on DWI, traffic violations, and serious felony offenses—including homicide—offering clients a level of preparation, strategy, and commitment shaped by years of high-stakes experience. Before entering the legal profession, John served our country with distinction as a Force Reconnaissance Platoon Commander in the United States Marine Corps, completing three combat deployments. He brings that same level of focus, discipline, and strategic thinking to every case he takes on. After his honorable discharge as a Captain, he earned his law degree from Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, following his undergraduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. John has been recognized as a member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100, an invitation-only honor extended to the most qualified and accomplished criminal defense attorneys in the country. As a member of the National College for DUI Defense, he remains at the forefront of DWI defense—an area of law that demands a deep understanding of both legal precedent and evolving forensic science. John is admitted to practice in the North Carolina State Bar and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. He is the former President of the 4th Judicial District Bar Association and an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association (Criminal Justice Section), North Carolina Advocates for Justice (Criminal Defense Section), Carteret County Bar Association, and the Eastern North Carolina Inn of Court. Rooted in the local community he proudly calls home, John is not only an attorney but a husband, father, and outdoorsman.
