About Jay Willis

Willis Legal Services, LLC was founded by Jay S. Willis and is located in Portsmouth, Ohio. Mr. Willis was Magistrate in Scioto County Domestic Court for over a decade until his appointment as Judge by the Governor of the State of Ohio to complete the unexpired term upon the retirement of his predecessor. Mr. Willis returns to the private practice of law with a wealth of judicial experience which will greatly benefit any client regardless of the nature of the legal issue. Willis Legal Services, LLC is a general practice law firm with a focus toward Family Law, Criminal Law, and Appellate matters. Mr. Willis graduated magna cum laude from Capital University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts, and earned his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School in 1995, the same year he began practicing law. In addition to Mr. Willis’ years of private practice prior to serving as Magistrate and Judge he has hundreds of Continuing Education credit hours from the Ohio Judicial College, and he has written numerous published articles for The Ohio Magistrate’s Association Newsletter. In his career Jay S. Willis has served as a Criminal Defense Attorney, a Personal Injury Plaintiff’s Attorney, a Special Prosecutor, a Guardian ad Litem, a Magistrate and a Judge. Mr. Willis has been happily married to wife Brenda for twenty years and has two school-age children. He is actively involved in his community in southern Ohio, having served on the Portsmouth Little Theatre Board of Governors in the past, and currently serves on the Rotary Club of Portsmouth’s Board of Directors. Mr. Willis has worked with children professionally and civically for well over a decade volunteering routinely at the Portsmouth Area Childrens Theatre and coaching the Portsmouth High School Mock Trial Team. “Family is always the most important thing to me”-Jay S.
