About Dan Cron

With over four decades of practice, Dan Cron has built a reputation as one of New Mexico’s most accomplished criminal defense attorneys. He is known for his strategic approach and success in handling complex, high-profile cases, bringing seasoned judgment and determination to every matter he takes on. Dan is also recognized as the most experienced national security clearance attorney in New Mexico. Having held a clearance himself, he draws on that firsthand experience to represent clients with clearances from the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), and the State Department. His expertise is frequently sought by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), where he is retained both as a legal advisor and to represent individual employees in sensitive proceedings. Dan's legal career began in Santa Fe in 1980, when he was assigned to monitor federal reforms at the Penitentiary of New Mexico following a deadly prison riot. His efforts to uncover and address systemic failings gained national attention and laid the groundwork for a career in criminal and constitutional law. Over the years, he has held leadership roles in prominent New Mexico firms, including partnerships at Catron, Catron & Sawtell (1982–1990) and Rothstein, Donatelli, Hughes, Dahlstrom, Cron & Schoenburg (1991–1999), before founding Dan Cron Law Firm, P.C. in 2000.
