About Anne Taylor

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 1994 and went on to complete my Master’s Degree in Public Administration in 1996. Afterward, I attended law school and graduated with my Juris Doctorate in 1998. My legal career began that same year when I became a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Bannock County. In 1999, I transitioned to the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office. In 2004, I embraced my true calling when I joined the Kootenai County Public Defender’s Office as a Deputy Public Defender, where I managed juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony cases. I was qualified by the Idaho Supreme Court as Lead Counsel for Capital Defense and remained on the Supreme Court Roster for Capital Attorneys until the roster was transferred to the Public Defense Commission in Idaho. I continued my work on the roster until it was eliminated with the State Public Defense Act in 2024. From 2012 to 2017, I worked in private practice. During this time, I opened my own firm and later merged with a group of attorneys in 2014. While in private practice, I remained committed to Public Defense, taking conflict or appointed cases for various counties. In 2017, I achieved a long-standing career goal when I became Kootenai County’s Chief Public Defender. In late summer of 2024, I reestablished my private practice, focusing on criminal defense and family law. I continue to advocate for my clients' rights.
